The Molecular Ballet
APARTE 22
Støperiet Saturday 5.11
^The House of the Molecular Ballet^
Practice session #6/256. Activation of ^Tot^ #250.
We have entered a territory larger than the language we have to describe it! Set within a time frame of 23 years - 2010 - 2032, the aim of the Molecular Ballet is to develop a language of what can be best described as Musical Hyperobjects.
What are Hyperobjects? They are objects that are so huge, so spread out in time and space that we cannot even recognize them as separate things. Yet they rule our world. Examples include global warming, radioactive waste, internet, money and the ever growing network of satellites surrounding earth .
How can we come to terms with the complexity of our predicament? The answer is a song. The raw material of our song is the ^Tots^ – a set of anonymized images and texts produced by 256 invited artists over the course of 11 years.
The performance at the Aparte Festival is the 6th in a series of 256 formalized sessions where the ^Tots^ are developed one by one, into many-dimensional hieroglyphs of song and movements for all.
The Molecular Ballet is an art collective initiated by Ann Holmgren, Petter Width Kristiansen and Nikolai Aurebekk. The universe of the ^Tots^ has been explored in cinema, theatre, dance, music, design, generative art and from 22/2 2022, an ongoing series of open performances.
Previous Molecular Ballet sessions have happened at Henie Onstad Kunstsenter and Haugar Kunstmuseum. The 5th session was held in Venice on occasion of the premiere of the film Ovias by Ann Holmgren at Arran 360, official part of the The Sámi Pavilion at the 2022 Venice Biennale.
Supported by Kulturrådet, Fond for Utøvende Kunstnere & Fond for Lyd & Bilde.
